Wow, used to play Tribes Ultra Renegades online... when they modified it to have unlimited jet pack fuel. That was the best. 1999?
Never heard of Tribe games. Read on Wikipedia that this is going to be downloadable and multiplayer only?
This is sadly the case for 99% of gamers today. Tribes is a series from the late 90s/early 00s that focused on team-based multiplayer gaming. It had its own lore, like a Starcraft or a Halo, and the games took place within that setting. You could build your own bases, buy automated defenses, buy vehicles, etc. Imagine Team Fortress 2 + Halo + Starcraft + Capture the Flag. So, forget Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 or whatever else. This is a real online multiplayer FPS.
Consider me in. Article is blocked for me at work. Any idea on release date? Xbox only I assume? If this is downloadable only, cheaper than the usual $60? Sorry to bombard you with questions. I'm looking to get into some new good multiplayer games and this sounds like one.
Yeah man. I remember back when it was in its prime I didn't have a cpu that can play the game. I was so pissed. This game paved the way for Halo imo. Exact same concept, artwork, level design, units, game modes, etc. This is the real deal.
Since I was unable to play the originals, I look forward to giving this one a shot.
PC, XBLA. Release date is sometime this year, no word on price. Apparently there are two Tribes games in the works: Tribes Universe, an MMO, and Tribes: Ascend, this multiplayer-only FPS.
A reminder: Tribes: Ascend will be free to play on XBLA and PC. Just throwing that out there.
I remember playing "Tribes: Aerial Assault" on dial-up for the PS2. It was my first ever online shooter (second online game behind Madden 2003) and I remember the back of the case calling the game a "Halo Killer" according to PlayStation Magazine. I remember playing that game for hours on split-screen, I'll try this game for pure nostalgia alone.
Okay, so apparently Ascend is on hold for the 360, because Microsoft doesn't allow titles to be rapidly updated. In other words, Ascend's microtransaction system is a non-starter on the 360. So, PC only.
