Richie Incognito is also a question mark. He can play either center or guard and Sparano said he is not 100 percent certain which one he'll play yet. John Jerry? He was a right guard last year. The Dolphins want him to win a guard job this year and pay dividends on his draft stock and potential. But to do that he has to strengthen his core, according to the coach."He plays too bent," Sparano said. "I want him to play more erect." OooooooK. That's what she said! Seriously though, using sexual innuendo isn't how you gain respect amongst the NFL community... come on Tony, stop loafing around.
Okay, to salvage this topic's original purpose.... Most likely, he's talking about Jerry's stance, which he believes need to be changed.
I think he's talking about the difference between a blocker being a waist bender or a knee bender. You want a linemen to bend at the knees when he's blocking. It's considered a bad habit to bend at the waist. I don't really agree with the flexibility thing. There are some players better than some positions than others, but there are going to be guys who would excel wherever you put them who don't get moved around because they are A). At the highest value position already, or B). Teams don't wanna play with success. Look at Damien Woody. The guy has played at least a season at LG, C, RG, and RT and done well at all of them. I don't think anyone in the world thought he was going to be anything but an emergency stopgap at RT for the Jets, but he's been very good.
He could've, or should've said upright instead of erect though. C'mon. He should know everything gets taken out of context these days.
I agree, I think it is pretty dumb. To be flexibility could also be a sign of being really good. It also takes a huge leap of faith that Jake Long wouldn't be a good Right Tackle or any other really good linemen wouldn't be good at other positions.
Agreed. If you were to ask Sanchez, he'd agree. He prefers nothing better than the big Woody covering his nose. Although he doesn't mind the occasional Woody at his backside, or helping at the A-gap.
Nope-- no one noticed it. I have a burning feeling that's just what your brain is merely "wanting" you to think, Bevis. Nothing here but good ole Oline talk. So how's it hanging?
I could've sworn Sanchez preferred big dark Woody next to his tight end. Actually, I thought Woody busts open the hole so Ladanian can run up into it....... but that's after they first run a stretch play to set it up so the hole doesn't prematurely collapse. Last thing Mark wants is LT under a pile of Browns. Sanchez might only need 8 inches to score, but Ryan'll take a foot.
