This is Penny part 2, and precisely what Ireland is looking for. He hits all the Parcells checkmarks.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Ireland burns a 3rd on him

I'm as confident is saying McElroy is our target as I can be. No chance we take a first rounder.

Hey I Agree Totally, After all Pennington did take us to the playoffs then again so did the wildcat -___-
The Only Reason hes not a 1st Rounder is probably because of his height anyways

Yeah, well what his 40 time?

Could be one of those players you steal later in the draft due to the hand injury, or he could be smart but not physically that talented.

Actually, not all of them. Parcells wants three year starters. McElroy only started for two years. However, there is a fudge factor, and I think that fudge factor will be in play with McElroy. The guy is smart, accurate, and has enough physical ability. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Low Ball? What Negatives Does McElroy have other than his Arm Strength, its not like we have a Receiver that can burn people 50 yards down the field

Hard to tell with Qb's, for example C Ponder is said to be rising up the draft board and could be a #1 pick:

Maybe overly optimistic as the lockout means those are "dead" draft picks, Qb is such a mental position that without the entire cycle of Mini Camp and OTA's it would be difficult to see any of them being looked on as Starters.

No, we don't. But at the same time, for literally years, whenever we took a QB outside of the first round, it never worked out. I have nothing against McElroy, but seriously, we have been going years without a franchise QB and we keep paying for it.

He doesnt impress physically but he does have those intangibles mainly intelligence.BTW thats not unusual for NFL
QBs.There are a lot of intelligent QBs without the physical skills.

I See Where Your Coming From. Im Not a Big Fan Of the "First Rounder* Label. Im more of a , If the Quarterback fits our system and he works hard under it he'll be successful. Who was our QB and Offensive Coordinators back in those days anyways. Recently It was Dan Henning and we all know about him. Henne didnt fit Under his system , he had a bigger arm and was less accurate then Pennington Who was successful in that system. But Thats another story.

Could, I think he is drafted before Kapernick, would not be surprised to see a Qb hungry team trade back into the late first rd to take Ponder.

    A team like the Titans.

    what's the fudge factor here?

barely lost in his entire career?
led a real offense to a National Championship?
(and painfully evident that same offense fails to work when he's not in the game?)
played against the very best college football has to offer and still put up amazing numbers?

    (see Matt Flynn perhaps)

    For you others:

I believe this guy in the 3rd is a steal. We wouldn't be low-balling anything.

He will, at the very least, by on the roster for 12 years. He'll probably start here by year 2-3.

could he be another Pennington without the shoulder problem?
worth a hard look, he'll be there @ 3rd, possibly in round 6

interesting  you never know, definitely a later round pick-up

The fact that he was a Rhodes Scholar Finalist is a million times more impressive than a Wonderlic score.

McElroy will make some team very happy that they picked him. IMO he will make a better NFL QB than Newton.

Pretty sure it was a two. Strangely it is rumored he answered poorly on this question:

If you need to obtain drugs illegally which is the best way:

A). Don't do drugs at all as they are illegal.
    B). A Dealer
    C). A cop
    D). A friend
E). College level student athletes who you are in fact the coach of.

    He answered E

Always something to think about; the football in college is 'fatter' through the middle than an NFL ball. Maybe its me but it always seemed like the NFL traveled through the air better than a college ball. If that is even remotely true then it does help some guys with decent arms, even if just slightly.

I was pretty sure the college football is wider through the middle than an NFL one.

No wonder i was wrong about Henne.......damn it.

I think the white lines on the college ball creates an optical illusion because they do look bigger than the NFL ball, but according to Wilson the NCAA and NFL balls are the same size. :)
