I just thought I'd share that I have just been notified by the selection committee that I was selected from a list of youth and High School coaches to coach the South in the Cal State All Star football game. The Cal State game is a Northern vs Southern California All Star game being played over the Week of Thanksgiving. For those of you on the West coast with Cable, it may very well be on the tube. My son was named to the team back in the early summer to play OL.

The game will offer the players contact with college scouts, coaches on all levels with a specific emphasis on what it takes to be a successful high school and college player. My roster on the South supposedly has 5-6 All Americans on it (two at WR and 1 at QB) so I wont have any excuses it seems. My son and a teammate of his (both age 14) were named as starting OL for the game. My Boy is up to 6'2 250 and his teammate is 5'11 265.

The sponsors of the game provide the kids with a ton of free stuff (jerseys, cleats, shirts, hats, meals, etc) so the kids and coaches really get treated special and get a college exposure that you can't find at the 8th grade level very often.

I'm very excited about the week and feel honored to have been selected by the people from the All American Bowl, Football University, and the Cal State game Administators.

Some of the games coaches and players will also be selected for the Army All American Bowl game in late January. I'll let you guys know how things go when I get out there!

Thats great news coach We are glad to have you as a member and to get your input from a coaches point of view.

I have just one question. Why are you and your son wearing Ravens gear just before Ravens week ? Do we need to start considering changing your user name to Benedict Mike ?

nope, all of the college / pro folks there are donating their time and the whole event is seen more as a pump to get kids interested in school / sports scene and away from gangs, etc.

    It's a great concept.

I think he's bigger than 250 if I'm honest. HE TELLS ME he is 250 and wont let me see the scale. He's sensitive about his bigness sometimes! But I'm 5'9 233 and he looks more than 20 pounds on me, thats all I'm saying...

They always post highlights on their site for the Army All American Bowl, so I will definately throw a link up. Guess I better start dieting now so I dont look so fat on tv.

For the All Star game we'll be running spread and my Fly specialty stuff (I stuff, ace back, etc) on Offense. The main thing in this type of game is to get the ball in everyone's hands.

On Defense I want to run a 3-4 Quarters and Cover 2, maybe a little man under 2 deep as well.

    Nice!

I hate spread offenses. Too many of them out there! 90% of my Saturday football watching is spread and its making me sick. It's why I enjoy watching Stanford lol.

That will be awesome. They have already offered Codi a spot on the West (8th grade unlimited weight team) Offfensive Line, and we are hoping to make it but if he has a chance to start on the varsity OL it may be wiser not to miss the weightroom and fieldwork with the team.

Now if only more people would heed your wisdom we'd be a much more aware & informed forum as a whole.

By the way, if you get to coach a blue-chip QB, don't forget to send him to Clemson for me will ya! We can pay more than Auburn........... or USC. :tongue2:

Comgratulations!!! All state? That's awesome! Lol the most I ever got was a 2nd string all area team...AFTER somebody got hurt lol
He is a big boy, and I don't need to tell you that all-star is nice, but starting varsity is more important. What kinda school is it? 6-12? If it is, he can do spring with the big boys, no?
