Cole actually isn't a bad reporter (he broke the Reggie Bush story a long time ago) but he's not an analyst and his knowledge of football is superficial at best. Boomer and CK are infinitely better analysts than him, believe me. But that wasn't his job. Now he's just playing an analyst on the radio.

IMO, Robinson likely did the actual investigating while Cole was responsible for writing the bulk of the original article.
