The Dolphins hope Jared Odrick's addition motivates underachieving Phillip Merling. What fans will see with Odrick, Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley said, is rare athleticism for a man his size: ``He's 305 and looks about 250. He doesn't run like a big guy. His 29-inch vertical jump is amazing.''

It's hard to watch PSU defensive tapes and not like Sean Lee as well. Odrick wasn't a sexy pick, but he's going to be a heck of a player.

Guess the pick showed us how highly they think of Merling...

Would love to know who was second on our board if Odrick was gone.

I sure hope it lights a fire under Merling. For a guy with some promise, he's sure had no impact around here.

Im excited to see Odrick play though, looks like he can be a real beast.

how about odrick motivates himself and prove he is worth the pick
merling well i think it is safe to say the guy was a wasted pick
he has made one play here
lets hope odrick doesn't end up doing the same

Odrick has some awesome athletic ability for a man his size and he is definitely not obese. He is pretty good on an open field tackle for a man that big too.
I don't think they drafted Odrick because they are ready to give up on Merling. IMO they want to have plenty of players who can play and not just starters and backups. By having plenty of bodies they can rotate fresh legs into the lineup and don't have to worry so much about the starters running out of gas later in the game.

This regime doesn't give up on players. They get rid of them.

Not true. Merling hasn't been what many expected him to be, which was Richard Seymour, but he hasn't been a waste of a pick. I think the expectations for Merling were a little to high.

Sorry to say that a 29 inch vertical leap is not amazing by any stretch of the imagination...12 offensive lineman beat the "29 inch amazing mark this last combine."

Now when you have a 300lb+ DEFENSIVE PLAYER
have verticals of over 35 inches that is amazing
Suh and Geathers come to mind but I'm sure there were
others almost as impressive but 29 inches is not
