Is Peyton Manning the best ever??

After looking around NFL.com I was sucked into looking at Payton Mannings career numbers.

Given he has been in the league for 12 years this year and is getting ready to eclipse 50,000 yards passing in only 12 seasons, has 362 touchdowns, etc. I believe he will shatter all on Marino's records with ease if he stays healthy.

An amazing and deserved accomplishment for a classy individual.

No. Dan Marino played in a time where receivers didn't have advantages they do have today. And he still put up numbers.

Peyton Manning isn't even the best QB on his own team. That honor goes to Johnny Unitas.

When all is said and done though, I'll have him in my Top 5, especially if he wins another Super Bowl or 2 along the way.

reason for the question is, if he is or is going to be at some point, it would be sad to not take closer notice of history in the making. Kind of like with Danny, we all new he was great.....but the title of the "Best Ever" came later after the accomplishments. Hard to explain I guess.

Imho, yes if he stays healthy. While Farve now has all the main records it is because of his "time in grade" not because he beat Marino within the same time frame. Manning will put up nimbers that will break Farve's while doing it in Dan's time frame. The one record I see Danny holding on to is the yards record he set. Brees came close but no cigar!:wink2:

As for winning SB's while good in and of itself it should not be considered an indivual stat as to how good/bad a QB is imho because some pretty bad QB's have won that game.:wink2::shifty:

I agree with that. IMO no QB has done more with less, then Marino. Unfortunately when it is all said and done the records will not reflect that.

What? Hes had some fantastic recievers and solid OLs for much of his career. Granted hes not had much of a running game, but Peyton Addai isnt exactly all world.

Yes, Peyton can become the best QB of all time imo. He needs at least 1 more SB and few more of Dan/Bretts records and it will be his.

Not much of a running game? Edge was one of the best RB's in the league for a long time. He also had a HOF WR in Harrison and a top 10 WR in Wayne.
Throw in one of the best receiving TE's in the league as well with Dallas Clark and Manning has had a lot of great options to throw to.
The league is also biased towards passing the ball now, defenders can't even look at receivers without the threat of a flag being thrown. He should break just about every passing record there is.
Still, when all is said and done he will probably be regarded as the G.O.A.T. imho.
I don't understand the need for more Superbowls though, football is the ultimate team sport, we as Dolfans should understand that better than most.

I'd have to say by the end of his career, Peyton Manning WILL be the best QB of all time: YES

I truly believe that he takes the Colts from being a 6-10 team every year to being 13-3 or 14-2 every year. He's the only QB of this generation to make his team that much better, IMO.

This guy has overcome some really really bad defenses and patchwork Offensive Lines to consistently be a 12 or 13 win team.

As good as any other QB in this league ever was, I don't remember anyone else overcoming so many deficiencies to be a consistent(and by consistent, I mean winning at least 12 games every year) winner.

    Even guys like:

    Marino
    Elway
    Favre
    Montana

    etc.

All of them had seasons of 6,7,8 wins. Peyton, OTH, had a 3 win rookie season and has failed to win less than 10 games in a season since (and that was his 2nd year. since then he's failed to win less than 12!!!). No matter how you look at that, it's simply remarkable. An achievement that no other QB has, and probably the second most important achievement possible outside of winning a superbowl.

Put Jim Sorgi on the colts after the 1st game of the season and I'd be amazed if they win more than 8 games. Put Matt Cassel (A guy with no college game experience) in after the 1st game of the season and he wins 11 games and puts up pro-bowl numbers, being one of the hottest QB in the league the 2nd half of the season. Point being: Peyton Manning means way more to the Colts than Tom Brady does to the Pats.

Say what you will. But Peyton overcomes bad running games, bad defenses, multiple injuries to his OL, and a lot of which happen at the same time, yet he still wins, and wins more consistently than any other QB in the NFL has. The guy is the best. Make no mistake about it.

I will say this about him. I have never in my life seen a QB manage the game the way he does. Def. one of the most intelligent QBs to ever play.

Right now? No probably not, But before his career is done I would say yes. Manning is so smart and studies so much. He is like having a coach on the field. Not to mention he can do everything great as a QB.

If you're going to make a thread about someone great, at least spell his name right. :pity:

I don't think we need to worry about Peyton breaking Marino's records. Mostly because favre broke them already, so they are Favre's records now. And yes, Peyton will break them all.

Dolphins homers will argue that Marino did it before there were strict PI rules. But Manning is a robot. Peyton would be just as good 30 years ago as he is today. He is a master of his craft, and no one can **** with him.

    I think he will be.

Remember that game years back against TB where he led that miraculous comeback in the 4th quarter?
Remember the game against us that he only needed 14 minutes of possession to win?

He is by far my favorite QB in the league. One of the few QB's that is a true orchestrator of the offense. He is smart, throws a beautiful ball, has amazing pocket presence, and makes EVERY receiver look like they are the best in the NFL. Frankly if there is a team that would go undefeated, I hope they go 19-0 and laugh at the arrogant pats who failed to do the same.

Peyton is the best QB of his time, but not best ever. Dan played in an era where wide receivers could get mugged.....had he played in the current era I think he would have had numbers that nobody would have touched. Had he had some more support around him he also would have won numerous superbowls

its not just numbers. manning is the best because he is simply the best. he knows everything there is to know about his opponent. EVERYTHING! on top of that he studies himself for flaws, and has perfected every possible muscle movement he makes while on the field. He even avoids the rush like a machine. he is extremely smart, extremely accurate, and extremely talented. when peyton manning is your quarterback, you dont need a head coach. i truly believe that. the colts would be 14-0 right now even if cam cameron was their head coach.

When I read it I was about to come in a make an argument for Barry Sanders or Jim Brown. I'm talking RB not player though.
Best player ever is a tough one, my vote would probably go to Jerry Rice though.

Yup, Jerry Rice is my best player ever. Barry Sanders is my best RB ever. When Peyton hangs 'em up, he'll probably be #1 on my QB list.

Yeh I tend to agree. Dan had a killer instinct that made him just phenominal. Peyton uses intelligence mixed with a great skill set at QB I have never seen a QB have before. I mean honestly, he's Manning(pun intended) a team that has a rookie coach to a possible undefeated team that has 29 players on IR. 29!! Thats half a roster.
