Soupy Sales, the rubber-faced comedian whose anything-for-a-chuckle career was built on 20,000 pies to the face and 5,000 live TV appearances across a half-century of laughs, has died. He was 83. Sales died Thursday night at Calvary Hospice in the Bronx, New York, said his former manager and longtime friend, Dave Usher. Sales had many health problems and entered the hospice last week, Usher said. At the peak of his fame in the 1950s and '60s, Sales was one of the best-known faces in the nation, Usher said. http://tv.yahoo.com/news/article/tv-news.en.ap.org/tv-news.en.ap.org-20091023-us_obit_sales
This one effed me up. I was very young when he was popular, but I remember watching his show, and I used to hear him on the radio. I kinda grew up with the Soupman. R.I.P. Soupy...everyone needs to reflect for a moment today, and then do the "Soupy Shuffle" in his honor.
One of the pioneers of television. I remember when a week didn't go by that Soupy wasn't on one variety show or another. 83 is a good, long life. Thanks for the laughs, Soupy.
