I know, I know, another Michael Jackson thread ... but still, this is a pretty incredible story. I'm a stats guy, and thought this was very interesting. So in other words ... the top Pop Catalog albums are all MJ. That's an incredible feat. Michael isn't just limited to moving actual physical discs. He's also taken over internet downloads. Even more impressive, at least to me, is this bit of news: So in other words, those 3 albums outsold ALL new music this past week. There's more, including the records he is setting for singles, but those are some pretty impressive feats. As far as I know they are all sales records. Amazing what dying can do for your popularity. I remember when Kurt Cobain offed himself, I don't know what the sales numbers looked like but I know there was nothing on MTV but Nirvana for weeks.
I bought the Remastered Special Edition of 'Thriller' today, that should help with next weeks listings.
I was thinking about that too ... his death was on Friday and this is last week's charts ... it will be interesting to see what kind of staying power he has this week and next week.
Of course, if Michael Bolton were to die tomorrow, his sales would only increase marginally. This is unprecedented. Nirvana sales spiked, but not like this.
Who would have thunk it. To make himself relevant again and get himself out of debt all he had to do was die.
Jackson memorial costs LA 1.4 million. I say bull**** the family should be paying for it. To hell with asking the public to make donations. http://new.music.yahoo.com/michael-...ackson-memorial-cost-la-1-4-million--61991315
