Yeah, we discussed this in phinchat prior - while the price is steep there are ways to finagle the situation to make it work for us.

All you have to do is throw a player into the mix, like say JT.

You offer JT and a 3rd.

    or JT and Ricky.

JT and a 3rd will not get you Anderson. If it does, be glad that Spielman is channeling his expertise to the Browns. Phil Savage isn't that foolish.

Also we all have to remember who is running the show. If anyone thought that Mueller could somehow pull draft picks out of his ying-yang then watch this guy and all of his showmanship. Parcells loves to trade down, his second year in Dallas he traded down a couple of times, and helped build depth on his team even though it didn't show up in the win colum. We should expect the same - especially with the 1st pick in the second round, I have a feeling we won't be picking there.

Seriously, I sure hope Parcells knows that lesson......personally I will be shocked and saddened if we use picks prior to the draft to acquire a backup QB.

No i'm responding to people who don't want to give up picks. Well you're gonna give up something if you want him so get used to it.

By the way get mad at the guy who started the rumor not me for giving other suggestions.

P.S. those best players we have are past their prime - they will be leaving soon too, might as well get used to it rather than be emotionally attached.

IF we were considering the trade giving up JT and Ricky would be WAY better a deal for us than giving up our first and third. Personally I don't think this story has legs any more than conjecture.

I don't know. It's possible. Cleveland would likely seriously consider it. If they don't move one of their QBs, they will have an enormous chunk of cap space tied up in the two of them.

I'd swap firsts for Derek Anderson.

That would be HUGE for Cleveland, who could then add McFadden to that crazy offensive core.

Yeah it is, if we can do it.

    but I re-read that and I missed a little.

Mostly I should have mentoned we will be putting off enough smokescreens this year that we will have firetrucks parked outside the Team Offices. Thus we shouldn't get all in a tizzy regarding every rumor out there.

While I'm sure they'd like to move one of them, Anderson is a hot commodity right now and there will be interested parties with a better package of picks to offer than JT + a 3rd

We would be crazy to make that deal. I woudn't even give a 4th for him. The guy had a good year. Needs to do it for a couple more years, then look at the asking price.

Try to youtube a browns game or two. We don't want Anderson. He had amazing playmakers in Kellen,Braylon, and Joe...a offensive line that played great this season....and a very solid running back. In spite of all the offensive pieces he had in place, he still didn't look like a franchise quarterback. Rather, he looked like a guy who could get the ball to his playmakers on a semi-consistent basis and let them use their skills to win 1-1 matchups. I'm not sure that is the type of QB we need on this team, particuarly one devoid of many of the elements that made him moderately successful for the Browns.

Quite frankly, as a Cleveland area local, I would be very surprised to see any team give up a 1st round pick or something comparable for Anderson. GM's will see the film on him and know he isn't going to take a team over the hump. He has the physical talent and age is on his size, but for a QB that still needs alot of developing and made bad, bad decisions late in the season which cost his team a playoff opportunity-the price is too high.

I'll stand by Beck this season. Sorry, 4 games isn't enough for me to give up on the guy.
I'm not giving up picks just to give them up and find out Beck was the guy all along.
If that's the case - bring me in a cheaper vet.

Damn, I keep forgetting about the Brady Quinn deal.

I agree to an extent, but there is a huge difference between failures like Cade McNown & Joey Harrington, injury rattled has been's like Daunte Culpepper, career backups who only played a few good games like A.J. Feeley, and a guy who played at a high level for 16 games (injury free) in Derek Anderson.

Anderson is a Parcells type QB, too. Big guy with a rocket arm. I'd watch out for such a move, then a quick trade for Chad Johnson -- that would revamp the offense instantly. I'm definitely not down with giving up all of our picks, but I wouldn't be completely opposed to going out of our way for these two.

Bill Parcells is not stupid enough to do that. I wouldn't trade a 2nd for Derek Anderson either. I would do a 3rd or Jason Taylor straight up but for anything else, kiss it.

they have to unload Anderson anyway.... at least at some point.
If they believe that Brady is the QB for the future, then we hold the
upper hand on this. You don't give up too much for someone, when
the team is giving you up anyway.

But we can't trade a 2nd, because our second round picks for QBs end up being the some of the worst decisions in football history. We'd have to figure out a different round.
