Interesting that despite the cap implications for 2010, Graham is the latest high profile prospect to commit to a senior year rather than enter the draft. This is a top 50 potential pick who's following Colt McCoy, Mark Herzlich and most likely Tim Tebow in staying at their respective universities. Will be interesting to see how some of the other high profile underclassmen choose to fall and whether 2010 really is going to play into decisions as much as we might have assumed. 1 star thread BTW.
Well everyday that goes by hurts. The union hasn;'t even named a representative which only delays the process further - again a bad deal bu what can you do? I hope they have heads together and have some sense here, but you never know. New people all the way around.
Richard's right. Every day is one day less. They've named the final 5 interviewees, but I don't know if the interviews have taken place yet to replace Gene Upshaw. I know a lot of writers like Peter King, etc., who have a pretty good beat with regards the inner workings of the league, don't believe a deal would get done, hence the potential for this to be a bumper year with juniors and redshirt sophs getting their piece of the pie.
Would he have been a SOLB candidate for us with the second 2nd rounder/3rd round pick? I've seen him play a few times; seems pretty solid, though not as good as LaMarr Woodley was IMO.
I note that Aaron Maybin, Russell Okung and interestingly Jared Odrick have all petitioned the league. Nate Davis as also filed as has Shonn Green. Taylor Mays is almost certainly coming out, as is Eric Norwood.
You can take off the catheter now, Boom. Just make sure to have Nurse Betty do it for you. She'll make sure everything still works.
Mays has been almost pushed out by Carrol from what I heard. Carrol encourages his players to leave if they are given high grades.
Shonn Green is a RB no one is talking about but had a very good season for Iowa and I believe was 3rd in the country in rushing yards per game. At 5' 11'" and 235 pounds he is built similar to Ronnie Brown and is a bruiser.
Nice player. Pittsburgh Steeler type back. Doesn't have a 2nd gear though which will be a concern. Has great balance, plays low and therefore makes the most of plays after contact. He's been great for Iowa this year and destroyed Penn State.
Interesting note on Nate Davis; Dan Pompeii at TSN thinks that some NFL scouts believe that Davis is 5'11 and not 6'2, which would severely impact his NFL future.
Glen Coffee has petitioned the NFL as has PJ Hill and BYU end Jan Jorgensen. Interesting to note that Antoine Caldwell got a not higher than 2nd round grade last year. He's had a much stronger senior year, so it will be interesting to see where he lands.
It didn’t really click when you first posted this, but I was really impressed with Odrick this past season considering the depth on the DL. He had some quality, quality games last year. He could be a real force if he keeps growing (not from just from a physical standpoint), but I doubt he will get a high enough grade for him to actually come out. I don’t understand why he or Maybin even petitioned the league since they are saying they are coming back next year. I wish more people were up front like Justin King was.
quote: A scout for an AFC team, who requested anonymity because he is prohibited from talking about underclassmen until they declare, said playing in a spread offense and carrying the ball hurt Tebow because scouts can't evaluate him in a pro-style offense. They don't know if he can take snaps from center, make reads while dropping back and look for his third our fourth option on the play. "You're speculating he can learn things and he can do things," the scout said. "You're taking, to me, a huge risk by taking him very high." I agree that playing in the spread has hurt Tebow's draft standing. I believe he has the skills to play in a pro style offense but he's being compared to other prospects whom you don't have to speculate about in that regard. I disagree with Mcshay however, in that I believe he is worth drafting in round two. I believe the NFL will eventually start using the spread more and more though so in the future a spread background won't be as big of a detriment.
I see Vince Oghobaase is staying. Arthur Jones of Syracuse claimed he got a 1st/2nd round grade but is staying and Brandon LaFell says he's hearing 1st or 2nd round.
I don't know much about Jones but LaFell's grade sounds about right. I was thinking early second round. I'm quite interested to see what Byrd of LSU grade will be as he's got talent but is ultra lazy, as you once noted.
I'll find the quote about Byrd. Ed Ogeron tells a funny story about how lazy he was/is. LaFell doesn't blow me away. He puts too many balls on the carpet for me and whilst it's a weak senior class, if you throw in Harvin, Eric Decker, Heyward-Bey, Maclin, Crabtree, Hakeem Nicks, maybe Kenny Britt, as well as Iglesias, Derrick Williams, etc., I'm not sure how high LaFell goes. Good player, but.....you know......I see an awful lot of LSU and I would find it hard to pinpoint a time where LaFell has taken over a game and really made me sit up like the others have.
Fimally found the damn quote. Been searching for it for days. Sonny Lubick's son was on Ed Orgeron's staff at Ole Miss and went to Pearl River Community College to see Byrd who was third on the Rebels in state recruiting board. Comes back to the Ole Miss recruiting hub and gives his report said: "Byrd is a great looking kid. Big, fast, he's exactly what we don't have right now. He's real undisciplined. I think he could help us. He's so damn lazy he had to call a timeout because he was so tired, which actually didn't make any sense because he was loafing the whole game."
