Use this thread to discuss the Miami Heat as they make their return to the playoffs.

As for predictions on the Heat and the season?

Miami Heat record: 44-38 (6th seed.) make the 2nd round of the playoffs.

    As for the NBA:

East: Boston defends their title. Philadelphia becomes a serious contender. Cleveland as well. Detroit falls off this year.

West: lakers should steamroll the west. San Antonio is weaker (older). The Hornets are the sexy pick. The Blazers WILL make the playoffs.

Finals pick? Lakers defeat Philly 4-2.

Rookie of the Year: Michael Beasley. (Miami) He will average 15 points, 7 rebounds per game.

    NBA Predictions:

Most Valuable Player - LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers
Defensive Player of the Year - Ron Artest, Houston Rockets.
Rookie of the Year - Michael Beasley, Miami Heat
Sixth Man of the Year - Rodney Stuckey, Detroit Pistons
Most Improved Player - Andrew Bynum, Los Angeles Lakers
Coach of the Year - Nate McMillan, Portland Trail Blazers
Executive of the Year - Ed Stefanski, Philadelphia 76ers
Eastern Conference Champs - Cleveland Cavaliers
Western Conference Champs - Los Angeles Lakers
NBA Finals - Los Angeles Lakers, 4-1
NBA Finals MVP - Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers

Random - Tracy McGrady has the most complete all around season of his career and finally gets out of the first round, advancing all the way to the conference finals with a thrilling loss to the Lakers in 7 games. I honestly believe that he'll enter the MVP talks this year.

    Miami Heat Predictions:

Record - 43-39, 6th seed, advance to second round.
    Scoring Leader - Dwyane Wade
    Assist Leader - Dwyane Wade
    Rebound Leader - Shawn Marion
    Block Leader - Joel Anthony
Dwyane Wade's Return - All NBA 2nd Team, All NBA 2nd Team Defense, NBA All Star Starter, Top 5 in MVP votes. Final Stats: 27/7/4 with 2 steals on 47% shooting, and less turnovers than years past. Wade suits up for 70-75 games.

Random - The successful return of Shaun Livingston at some point before the half way mark of the season. I predict he becomes the starter by February-March and finishes with a promising season; maybe an average of 8-10 points and 4-5 dimes per game in about 20-25 minutes per game.

I've got a question for ya. Although I've seen Livingston play quite a bit as I've always been a fan, what are your thoughts on his overall play pre-injury?

Also, good luck this season to the Clips.

I liked Livingston quite a bit. A lot of that was based on potential but he's a unique pg in that he's so big. I mean how many PG's are 6'7? He's an athletic guy who's a good distributor and can push the ball well. He can also overpower and shoot over smaller PG's so he isnt the easiest of match ups for the defense. He wasnt a great shooter, but he's young. He could be good for Miami, and it's really a low risk, high reward type signing. He was a pretty raw player, so it's hard to say what he can develop into, but I'd be pretty excited if I were a Heat fan. I'm sure there are several people who post in here who are far more knowledgeable about NBA talent who can give you some pretty good info on him. I know I'll be rooting for him to do well for you guys though, after that injury he deserves it.

Good luck to you guys too. Should be a fun season.

I won't give you my opinion of Livingston, because you would think I am a hopeless homer.

But had he not had that injury, he would be signing a multi year 10 million a year contract at this time.

When he got hurt...he was ready to take the next step that Ivan Calderon took...from a good rotation player to a top PG.

Now...let's see how he comes back from his injury.

if he is anything like how he was before..we have a future 14 and 8 PG.

I don't expect much from him this year though.

I thought the loss of Livingston was a horrendous one for LA. I thought he was going to take over the PG spot for them but that changed with the injury. His game was starting to come together in LA. He had incredible potential prior to the injury, that was for sure. Have to remember that this guy was touted as the best PG in the nation, better than Telfair. He actually outplayed Telfair in an ABCD camp. As for how he would be after it, I think he would lose explosiveness or at least some of it but if the Heat staff is patient with him, it will be a steal of a pickup. He still has some potential. As you mentioned, he's unusually tall for a PG so that is a big advantage for the Heat. I would think that if he was to lose some of his explosiveness, he would work on his shooting game even harder. If that is the case, he could be a good, starting PG for the Heat. His only knock coming out was that he needed to get a stronger upper body and that will be improved once he starts playing for the Heat. I know that the closest comparison for him coming out was Penny Hardaway with more PG in him though. He's a very pure PG as they would say. Like I said, if they're patient with him, they'll get what they want from him which is a 15 point, 8 to 9 assist guy every night. With the Wade and Beasley there as well, I think that would be good for them from Livingston.

I'm late, but I certainly appreciate the response. Hopefully we can have a ton of Livingston-related discussions throughout the season, meaning he'll get everything back in order. I am a long time viewer of the Clippers as the old "Clip Show" is my favorite Era when it comes to a sucky sports team (at the time). I rigged my first cable box as a youth to be able to watch D-Miles, Q-Rich, LO, Magz, McInnis, etc. run up and down the floor and kill the fastbreak. I don't remember that core coming up victorious on many nights, but they sure as hell were fun to watch.

I remember D-Miles & Q-Rich making that horn symbol every time one of them made a play. My big brother and I stole their thing for pickup basketball, lol.

Cook & Quinn better step up now, because we have no shooters.

beasley started the last preseason game. not big on on cook. i think he's too small to play the sg position and only offers three point shooting. jones would give us size at 6'8" and defense.

If Livingston can fully recover from the knee thing he could be the steal of FA this yr. I absolutely love the mismatches he can create. And if he has his quickness back and can drive the lane it will create all kinds of shots for Wade, Marion, and Beas....

Mario Chalmers worked with the first team in practice today; looks like he's getting the starting nod. The first team unit: Chalmers, Wade, Marion, Beasley, and Haslem. Second team: Quinn, Banks, Wright, Anthony, Blount. Cook is probably a lock for the active roster, and the final spot comes down to Livingston (if healthy enough) and the horrendous shooting even when as open as can be Frenchman.

They seem to be entering the season with Haslem slated to play heavy minutes at the 5 spot.

watch for some very creative defensive schemes that will have us out ont eh break.

One thing is for sure. for the last 4 years we have had a very bad transition defense. That will now change due to the speed that we will have on the court.

Haslem at the 5 opens up the floor for Wade and gives him options when driving the lane WITHOUT a James Jones to knock down 3's.

Were we will hurt is when we face teams with true centers.....

go ahead and name the teams with true centers...

    I am waiting.

In the long run..we need healthy big bodies to bang and use fouls.

Haslem in foul trouble could spell big problems for us in every game till we get healthy at the 5 spot.

Lineup looks good to me. I'm looking forward to fast-paced, energetic, dominant basketball. Let's put up 130 points on the Panties.

Yup, and we can't watch it because Sun Sports is garbage. I can't even catch the game on League Pass, because Comcast is also a piece of crap company. Even though they have the MSG channel up, because I'm in South Florida, I can't get the game on both channels.
