The impression I get is the NFL could care less if the Dolphins have been compromised, because they are the Dolphins, but had this been Dallas, a NY team or NE, they would have been all over Westhoff.
So, Eric Mangini is turning into Billy B. In all fairness, this is on the Fins, there has been talk for a while up here about West coming back to the Jets and was just waiting to get healthy. When I heard he was at camp I said WTF!!!
True Sparano should have known, and made it his business to know. But OTOH Westhoff should have been upfront too.
this whole thing means very little really, but I bet Sparano will have some words for Mike because he misrepresented himself. Pretty low class thing to do IMO. Bet he doesn't get another invite to Sparano's house.
Yeah, this doesn't sit well with me. I don't see it as "major" issue but if he did misrepresent himself, I would at least see a fine being in order. At any rate, it was only a couple of practices and I'm sure we have records of what was worked on during those sessions. If anything, it just adds to the chess game in terms of what we can implement to suprise the Jets if they are going to use any information gained. I can't see us doing Westhoff any favors in future...
If they have tape of the practices he attended, and I'm sure they do, a real chess game indeed! Come out in one of the formations he saw, different play call, same play, who knows? Since we are practically an all new staff, he doesn't have any tendencies to lean towards, and we could actually use it to our advantage. And I'm sure BP will have some behind the scenes things to say to the parties involved.
Crappy and classless move by Westhoff and the Jets. I find it hilarious how this turns them into giant hypocrites, while still wearing the "rat-fink" badge of dishonor too. He was invited as a friend, and was there under false pretenses. fortunately it was an insignificant part of camp which was open to the public, and any "spy" could view with our fans in the bleachers, or on aquavision. but its the principle.
This doesnt surprise me much... The Jets are simply the junior patriots. Pretty classless thing to do IMO.
When Westhoff left he was not supposed to return until the 2009 season at the absolute earliest, that is why the Jets pryed away Kevin O'Dea from the Chicago Bears. This was not Mangini, Westhoff and others trying to one up the Dolphins. Do you honestly believe Bill Parcells would've let this happen if he thought Westhoff was going to return this season? The only reason why Westhoff is returning this season is because O'Dea has ruined the great Special Teams units the Jets had and Mangini & Co. begged and pleaded with him to come back a year earlier than expected. This was not planned for Westhoff to return in 2008.
124.. I couldn't believe the idiot wanny fired Mike and replaced him with a chump friend... I can understand how you feel, and how badly you would like Mike back coaching.
When we first heard that Mike was going to come back about 2 weeks ago, all of Jets Nation was happy to hear it. Under O'Dea the Kickoff coverage was very poor. Westhoff, if not the best, is one of the best in the game. Special Teams can win or lose a game for you and the fact that he's back is just flat out awesome. O'Dea is still the "coordinator" but Westhoff will be calling the plays. More like O'Dea is the coordinator by name, but not really. Same as Bob Sutton is the Defensive Coordinator by name, but not really. Mangini calls the plays. At least he has in the second half of the season in 2006 and 2007. We'll see if its Sutton or Mangini's defense to start the 2008 season. Both previous two years Sutton started out and at the Bye week Mangini took over the D became very, very good.
Sounds like mangina is not impressed with his coordinators play calling. the only reason a coach takes away play calling duty is because the coordinator is NOT doing a good job of it.
O"dea has not even coached the Jets yet. Westhoff gets the play calling because he is a Special Teams genius.
meh it seems like this is no big deal, also who forgot to spray raid around this place before the Jets game?

I can't imagine that Parcells didn't have some inclination to what was going down. Honestly though I can't imagine having Westhoff as a spy given the crapstorm that came out of the Patsies last season - especially since Mangina was one of the whistle blowers.
