so i started playin xbox live last night(connected straight to the modem), and i got disconnected cuz i found out my ip changes every 2 hours(????)...so i went and messed around and now it "changes" every 2 hours but it stays the same....but now whenever i disconnect my modem from my computer and into my xbox..it doesn't keep the ip address, so there's no way i can play on xbox live...

so to computer geniuses...how do i unplug my computer from my modem but keep the ip address???? i did it when i first started playing...

You probably need to contact your ISP and get a static IP or switch to a cable modem where your IP will rarely change.

There is no way I know of the keep your IP if the IP as dynamic as yours seems to be.

Just as an FYI; with your last post, your IP was 71.111.113.***. Since you started posting here, you have had 12 IPs.

You could try a proxy IP.

As you've found out, there are certain ISP's that do this kind of thing. Security is generally the reason, but sometimes they have to do it if they possess a relatively small amount of IP's.
