New Helmet?! [update] With Nike taking over the uniforms for the NFL and making subtle or major changes to uniforms I thought perhaps we could see some big changes to the phins uniforms. I think I've stumbled upon our new helmet? Maybe it's just part of the alternate uniform? Still... this thing is AWESOME. You're welcome. Check out that facemask, WOW and no white but matte silver for the base coat for the main color. Unfortunately I can't get a side pic of it but we'll find out soon enough. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: To the people doubting my original post before this became a logo thread, I went to the source of the photo. Probably just a prototype, but it exists.
This is the real deal my friend. About 150 high school athletes are at Nike Headquarters in Oregon for Nikes The Opening and this was tweeted out.
Most college programs have more tradition than NFL teams. I think it really boils down to having silly things like uniforms as tools to attract 17-18 year old kids. I'm also in favor of something modern and futuristic for the Fins. I don't want to look back anymore, I only want to look forward.
Nah, select college programs have history and thats only a fraction of the hundreds of schools. Almost all of NFL teams have history and take pride in their uniform as they should...they're good and dont need NIKE ruining them. And we dont need NIKE turning the NFL into stupid Arena uniforms or the disasters we see in some colleges now. Luckily the NFL is smart enough to set rules for Nike that they cant change uniforms but every 5 years
Really dig the facemask. Would like to get a better look at the rest of the helmet. I'd love for the uniforms, etc. to be updated if possible. Tradition only goes so far. If you can improve, you improve.
Gimme new and fresh. As long as the Dolphin is on the helmet, and aqua and orange remain i'll be happy.
I actually like it... BTW could you imagine the sun shining off of those metallic helmets?!?! It would blind defenders
Another note is the two oranges in the helmet are different... making it look tacky. I say make the orange on the helmet match the face mask.
Keep our integrity and tradition, just give it a modern edge, that's all, that way everyone is happy.
I agree.... though I will say it looks more coral than that orange stripe on the helmet. Now if we could just get the Aqua back.
As much as I am ready for a change, I am like the other guy that said, it just looks way to Patriot like for me. The orange facemask is awesome, the stripes are awesome, but the base color has to change.
Right - if we're worried about tradition I think we'd all be happy to go back to the original logo. That is badass. But if we're going to update the current logo, please let that facemask be part of it.
It appears alot of people are vying to be the one to redesign the helmet. This was submitted by some woman graphic designer. Wonder what the brass thought of it.
I think it is just a promo bucket for Hard Knocks. If you seen the trailer posted in another thread (forgot wihich one now) it is all neon and stuff. It doesn't even look white in that image, it is like a metallic silver. Not sure that is a true representation of what we will be using.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana, The Life of Reason, Volume 1, 1905
Exactly. People might not realize it, but we've updated multiple times over the years. Not like the Bills and their Arena Football look in the '00s. But look at us now compared to the '70s. Even the Giants and Cowboys -- two of the NFL's most storied and successful franchises -- have changed their uniforms, logo, etc. in recent years.
I remember the past, and it wasnt pretty. Everything after Marino is a blur of boring mediocrity. We didn't go undefeated in our current uni's anyhow. Bring on some excitement! I want to see something new while I watch us use a passing game for once (post Marino) and score 40 a game! I've been alive 31 1/2 years, and I don't remember 1982. I'm at the point that I just want to be entertained.
I can dig that. I don't need flourecent colors. I just want more than tiny subtle changes. I'm in love with the new flat aqua jerseys and how they fit. Maybe even that will be enough, but that new helmet made my mouth water. :P
The uniform changes did wonders for the Broncos and the Patriots. You could say it changed their Karma. The Dolphins need a Karma change after years of mediocrity.Count me in for a image change.
That's pretty...cartoony. If anything, I imagine the Dolphins will move away from that direction. I thought this re-design was clever I'm not sure about the facial expression, but I think the rest of it is pretty neat.
With some tweaks, maybe more pronunciation with stroked lines or something, I think that logo can grow on me.
I'm conflicted when it comes to uniform design. In all honesty, if we weren't Dolphin fans, would any of us think the color teal is cool? I'm all for tradition, but a Dolphin grey or silver wouldn't make a bad replacement for the teal in the uniform. I guess my opinion falls on the two polar extremes. Either go back to the original classic Dolphin uniform (my all time favorite) or do a complete and drastic re-design. Either way, no 3D block numbers please.
I agree. The aqua "M" is cute, but then it leads me to try and discern a character in the coral, and then I just give up on the whole thing.
Meh, that looks like something that you'd see as a design on outside of an airliner. The 2nd one FinD posted isn't too bad. like the one Pagan posted, they both have stronger looking dolphins, which I like.
If they ever use this type of helmet, it will be as an alternate, not as a replacement. NFL will never use that kind of thing full-time. Also, I'm not a fan of "go back to how it was in the 70s". Its 2012. Come up with something new. Not the crap that all these amateurs are peddling. Something thats worthy of adorning a billion dollar organization.
