Just so you guys are aware... IF a player that was originally on your roster restructures his contract in the NFL, you can change his base salary to the new one if you have proof of the change (reliable link). For example, the Steelers recently restructured the contracts of Lawrence Timmons and LaMarr Woodley. Timmons' base salary has dropped from 2.625M to 700K and Woodley's base salary has dropped from 3.4M to 700K. Because Woodley is still on the Steelers roster in the GM League, Boik can change his salary to 700K. However because Boik traded Timmons to the Seahawks earlier this week, Timmons' salary cannot be changed.

You can post any restructures that you find on your own team here and I will approve the change if it is reliable... so keep an eye out on your respective team's news in the NFL. We've always had this rule (since I can remember) but I just thought to bring it to your attention after seeing the Steelers two restructures.

So if the Eagles re-sign DeSean Jackson for a deal worth 5m a year tomorrow, I don't have to franchise him?

no because officially he is not on the Eagles roster when our league froze rosters, because his contract with the team expired whereas Timmons and Woodley count because they had a contract with the team.

Gotcha, but still, I think it's dumb, if the rosters are frozen, the rosters are frozen.....Does that mean if Victor Cruz gets a gigantic deal the Giants would have to UP their cap # ?

Exactly. And if your going to change the salary for the team, why not if their traded? Makes no sense.

it wouldn't be the GM League without someone trying to lawyer all the rules.

It doesn't work when traded, because the player has his salary restructed by his original team so if he is moved before that we assume the team that gets him already knows the risks involved and wouldn't restructure the deal.

Doesn't matter what the trader thought or knows. Simple fact is if I look at Lawrence Timmons salary its not what it is in this league. If your going to change the salary, change them all. If your going to freeze the rosters. Freeze them. Restructuring their deals are moves made by the real life franchise after rosters frozen. It should not effect the salaries in here IMO.

Holy whambance batman. Stop complaining. It carries the same benefit for everyone. If Eli manning restructures his deal the NYG gain cap space. If you traded Eli well then your SOL. If Timmons were listed at 700k at the time the league started he may not have been dealt. I'm out of 1.9M in cap space. Sure i got Okung but maybe i would have dealt someone else. Sucks for me.

Though I guess on the whole I stand to lose about a million in cap room on this (before cuts), it seems valid enough. The trade issue, people factor in salary in their trades and I sure as **** know that's true. If someone's deal drops by more than 2MM or whatever, essentially the person who did the trading gets ****ed out of that value - and possibly wouldn't have even traded them in the first place. Rosters and FA status were frozen, yes, but as far as I can see, salaries were not. And that's what's changing.

The only valid point was the point sick made about contract raises as well IMO. If victor Cruz gets a raise well then does his GML salary get raised

It's been like this since I can remember (before I ran it at Finheaven). If it was one of your own players who did the restructure, you wouldn't be complaining... It's not like this is going to benefit me... my big salary guy is in his contract year.

You all can STFU and deal with it as far as I'm concerned.

Thank goodness I have a competant point man for contract negotiations. He just needs to do a better job updating his boss lol.

The downside is that in the real NFL Pitt has probably freed up enough money now to sign Soliai from Miami as their new NT. by my count this is over 9M in cap they've freed up.

A similar "pass" was given to a rookie GM the following year. Water under the bridge as far as im concerned, but let's not pretend the buddy system doesnt apply in this league. If it bothered me that much I would just not get in it, i enjoy the political part of this league....makes me giggle.

As an outsider here, if I recall correctly, in previous years there has been a drop dead date implicit in the cap numbers that you post. Hence my opening up a can of worms if you don't institute a date this year. I mean someone could rework their deal in April and you could have it affect the cap number here. Maybe this year you posted the cap numbers a little earlier than normal (I dont know). But if that's the case, extend the drop dead date to the start of free agency?? Just trying to help :wink2:

No it doesn't. He didn't restructure his contract with his original team. You traded for a player where you knew his salary. I don't care if you don't like it because you would change your tune if it benefited you. That's the truth...
