Jason Ferguson Suspended 8 Games

by George Richmond on March 7, 2010

The Dolphins entered the 2010 offseason with questions at the nose tackle position.

Unfortunately, it appears that a likely contingency option will have to be scrapped.

The NFL announced on Saturday that it has suspended free agent nose tackle Jason Ferguson eight games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Ferguson was suspended four games in 1999 for violating the same policy.

The news likely ends this ‘Parcells Guy’s’ veteran’s tenure with the Dolphins, who acquired Ferguson from Dallas in 2008 in exchange for two 6th round draft picks.

The former Georgia Bulldog  started 26 games for Miami over the past two season.  He is currently rehabbing from a torn quadriceps injury suffered Nov. 19.  Ferguson, 35, underwent surgery in December and hoped to suit up again in 2010.

Instead, the suspension could quite possibly spell the end for the 13-year veteran, as Ferguson has expressed a reluctance to play anywhere else besides Miami.

As it stands, 4th year man Paul Soliai is the lone nose tackle on the roster. [Source]
