Two Potential Receiving Targets Off the Board

by George Richmond on February 28, 2010

As have many Dolphin fans, we’ve talked about potential additions to the wide receiver corps.

Two players with no shot at playing in Miami are the two behemoths in San Diego.

Wide receivers Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd are both expected to get the first-and-third tender from the Chargers, based on conversations I’ve talked had with people familiar with the Chargers’ intentions.

I have also heard all sides have had at least preliminary talks about long-term contracts for both of the restricted free agents.

GM A.J. Smith isn’t messing around here.  Those two aren’t going anywhere.

Though Jackson was unlikely to be left unprotected, Floyd had received some realistic attention on the boards.

San Diego is an interesting team in particular, as their wide receiver corps represents an almost comical pinnacle of what this regime seeks to achieve from a size perspective.

Starters Jackson and Floyd are both 6-5, as is pending free agent Kassim Osgood.  All three are 220+  pounds.  #3 Legedu Naanee is 6-2, 220.  The smallest of the group is #5 Buster Davis 6-1, 210.

The Parcells regime has sought to bulk up the position since arriving in 2008.  6-4 Ernest Wilford and 6-5 Patrick Turner were prominent, albeit underwhelming, additions, though they’ve appeared to hit on 6-2 Brian Hartline.
