Long Gone: Dolphins Sweep Jets 30-25

Doesn’t sound much like the stat line of a hero.  Especially one whose coming off the worst game of his career.

But wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr. rediscovered another facet of his game that has long been dormant, electrifying Dolphin fans and the Mike Westhoff‘s special teams unit to the tune of 299 yards and 2 touchdown on 5 kickoff returns as the Dolphins (3-4) beat the hated Jets (4-4) 30-25, completing a season sweep of guys in green.

Ginn’s performance was especially surprising considering his first two kick returns of the day were less than inspiring.  The former Ohio State star was corralled twice by kicker Jay Feely.  Perhaps most embarrassing, Ginn was knocked back nearly five yards by Feely on the second return.

But on his third opportunity, Ginn turned the New Jersey crowd upside-down, cutting back and out-racing the Jet defenders for a 100-yard touchdown to put the Dolphins up 10-6 midway through the third quarter.

After Jason Taylor scored his ninth career touchdown via a 48-yard fumble return, Ginn blew loudmouth Jets coach Rex Ryan‘s mind, juking two Jet defenders before reversing field and racing to a 101-yard touchdown and a 24-13 lead.

This marked only the second time in NFL history that a player has returned two kickoffs for touchdown in one game.  Ginn got an extra feather in his cap by doing it on consecutive returns.

Since you’ve already seen and/or heard how the rest of the game turned out, we’ll simply highlight the fact that Ryan was once again begrudging in complimenting the Dolphins while lamenting why the Jets should have won this game.  And fellow sore loser Bart Scott sarcastically mocked the Dolphins in his post-game interview.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind readers that the Dolphins have won three straight against more talented Jets teams, including two at the Meadowlands.  And no amount of trash talk or excuses over the next 12 months will change that.
